Reflection 1: 3/14/19
Over the last five weeks I feel I have grown a lot as a writer. I have learned a lot from the class and I have used certain techniques to make my stories better. I have learned to start my story in the middle and to fill in the background knowledge as I go. I have also learned that description is a very careful subject in writing. I have to learn not to over describe and make sure I give enough information to the reader at the same time. The idea of starting in the middle of my story sounded like a tragic mistake at first, but after I learned more about it it made a sense. I was able to get the work done very fast and I feel I wrote really good stories in that time. I don’t feel like I rushed through them. My goal is not to be the fastest writer, I want to write good and attracting stories. People have commented before about how fast I work. I feel that when I get zoned in there is no zoning out until I’m done or I hear a bell. One time I didn’t hear the bell when I was writing a story and sat in the class an extra five minutes. My only roadblocks I have had are when I can’t relate anything to a poem for the ISO’s. I have moved these roadblocks by relating a story to baseball. I have connected every story in this class to the sport and I can not stop it. I go to baseball because that’s what instantly connects in my brain. I can’t control it, if I can write and see the story in my head I am going to write it. My work doesn’t adapt to certain audiences. I write in the same style, same voice, and same vocabulary is used in all my stories. I am not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing but it works for me so I stick with it. I don’t stay in the requirements of an assignment for too long. I try to get the parts I need in the story and know where I am going to put required parts before I get to the where I’m putting them. Then, I just have fun with it and write my story that I am always ready to tell. Using the rubric for my stories I wouldn’t mark myself down very many points. I could definitely get better at using more descriptive words and not use the same boring ones all the time. Teachers in the past have all loved my stories, especially the narratives that are my story and not assignments like a research paper. I can’t stand writing those unless it’s my choice of what I research, if not my story doesn’t turn out as well because I’m not interested in the story so why would anyone else be? I believe my work 100% reflects my effort. I give 100% to make 100% great stories. I am very proud of my work, I feel I am a really good writer and I love to write, if I write a personal narrative, or something along those lines, I take it home for my family to read. I am very confident in my writing ability, I write birthday cards for family members and I love doing that. I write because it’s something I feel I am good at so I continue to do it to the best of my ability. Hopefully this class strengthens my ability even more!
